2. The Constitution also mandates the Auditor-General to conduct periodic checks of all government Parastatals/agencies (including bodies established by a law of the State’s House of Assembly). This is in addition to providing such bodies with:
a. a list of qualified auditors from which the bodies shall appoint their external auditors;
b. a guideline on the level of fees to be paid to external auditors.

3. This constitutional mandate is to ensure transparency and accountability in governance as well as the adequate collection of revenues and judicious use of public resources’.
4. To carry out our mandate we engage in the following key areas of activities:

Routine audit inspection of the accounts and records, including salary payroll and other charges vouchers in all Ministries and Extra Ministerial-Departments, both at the headquarters and area/zonal offices where applicable;
Regular monitoring of the process of generating internal revenue with a view to ensuring that all accruable revenues are collected and accurately accounted for;
Regular visits to all projects and programmes being executed by the government and its agencies using the principles of value-for-money audit;
Verification of computation of entitlements of retiring and deceasedcivil servants;
Periodic inspection of government Parastatals/agencies
Review of the audited annual accounts of government Parastatals/agencies as prepared by their external auditors and forwarding of comments thereon to the State House of Assembly;
Certification of the State’s Annual Financial Statement as prepared by the State Accountant-General; and
Submission of the audited accounts of the State to the State House of Assembly.
